24V professional LED strip lighting
24V LED strip lighting is designed to supply long, seamless lighting to homes and commercial installations. It provides complete, even light with the best aesthetics, without the hot spots or dark gaps you get from cheaper strips. It is often called architectural lighting, because the strip is usually hidden in a small niche, recess, pelmet or aluminium channel so that only the lighting effect is seen, not the light source itself.
Strip lighting can be exceptionally bright, up to 4500 lumens per metre, and very versatile. It is used indoors under kitchen benches and inside joinery, and outdoors along eaves, steps and garden walls. It is available in numerous colour options, brightnesses and lengths, so the same product family can light a display shelf softly or replace a fluorescent tube in a workshop.

Why 24V beats 12V
A strip light is a chain of LEDs mounted on a flexible circuit board and powered by a low-voltage DC driver. At 24V the driver only needs to push half the current through the strip to deliver the same wattage as a 12V strip. Lower current means:
- Less heat generated in the copper tracks and LEDs, so the strip runs cooler.
- Less voltage drop along the length, so the far end of the strip is as bright as the near end.
- Longer runs from a single feed point, which means fewer drivers and fewer joins.
- A longer lifespan, because heat is the main thing that shortens LED life.
24V has half the current and heat of 12V, and therefore double the lifespan. It also allows runs of up to 10m from one end, double the length of a 12V strip, which makes it far easier to light a long kitchen bench or a whole ceiling perimeter without visible breaks.

SMD versus COB
SMD strip uses individual surface-mounted LED chips spaced along the board. At 240 LEDs per metre the chips are so close that the light merges into a continuous line. COB (chip on board) strip mounts many tiny LEDs under a continuous phosphor coating, so a 505 LED COB strip gives a completely smooth glow with no dots even when it is not behind a diffuser.
Colour temperature and CRI
Warm white (around 3000K) suits bedrooms and living areas, natural white (around 4000K) suits kitchens and bathrooms, and bright white (5000K and above) suits garages and task areas. CRI (colour rendering index) describes how accurately a light shows colours compared with daylight; a CRI 90 strip makes timber, stone and food look natural rather than washed out.
Channels, diffusers and drivers
Various channel types with diffusers are available in 3m lengths. An aluminium channel does three jobs: it acts as a heat sink, which is why the 50,000 hour lifespan is quoted with a profile; it protects the strip from knocks and dust; and its diffuser evens the light so no LED dots show. Surface, recessed and corner profiles cover most joinery and plasterboard details.
Every 24V strip needs a matching 24V DC driver sized to the total wattage of the run, and dimmable, CCT or RGB strips need a compatible control module or smart controller. Any 240V wiring to the driver must be carried out by a licensed electrician; the low-voltage strip side can then be fitted by the installer or cabinet maker.
