How we lowered the cost without lowering the quality
In order to compete in this low-cost market we have come up with a new solution that enables us to supply a high-quality LED downlight with a long 50 000hr lifespan, all at a lower cost. The savings come from the design of the fitting and the way it is packed and installed:
- We have made the downlight smaller to reduce material cost.
- We have eliminated the need for a GPO, which would cost $1.20 or more per light.
- We have eliminated the cord and plug on the downlight, saving further cost.
- The downlights take up one third of the space of normal downlights with sockets.
- This reduces shipping costs and, more importantly, saves you storage space on site and in the van.
- There is no need to connect sockets and secure them to beams, which saves installation time. No screws, just a simple quick connect with a secondary loop for connecting multiple lights in a run.
For an electrician wiring a whole house, removing the plug and socket from every downlight adds up. Each light is terminated directly with the quick connector, and the secondary loop lets the next light in the room be fed from the previous one without going back to a junction box.
Specifications and performance
The Greenhse Technologies new 8W low-profile cost saver also has high CRI, high lumen output and a long lifespan. It offers good heat dissipation with no flickering and no UV, a built-in driver, TRIAC dimmable operation and a beam angle of 120º for a wide, even spread of light.
High CRI (colour rendering index) means colours in the room look natural rather than washed out, which matters in kitchens, retail displays and anywhere skin tones are viewed. TRIAC dimming means the light works with common leading-edge and trailing-edge wall dimmers, so no special control gear is required. The power factor of PF≥0.9 indicates the driver draws current efficiently, which keeps the load on the circuit low and is a sign of a well-designed driver.
The fitting is recommended for homes, offices, retail, schools, supermarkets and similar spaces. With a depth of only 40mm it is good for areas with shallow ceilings where a standard downlight and its driver will not fit above the plasterboard.
